Last week, Aston Martin triumphantly announced their plans for the limited production of the exhilarating Vanquish Zagato Coupe—the newest release from the partnership with Italian design-house Zagato.
After unveiling the Vanquish Zagato concept at Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este at Lake Como in May, the company announced a strictly limited production run of less than 100 cars would be conducted at the Aston Martin production facility in Gaydon, England.
This is the fifth car to emerge from a more than 50-year collaboration between Aston Martin and Zagato, which began with artfully rugged DB4 GT Zagato racing car of 1960—now valued at over £10 million sterling—and includes the V8 Vantage Zagato launched in 1986, the 2002 DB7 Vantage Zagato and the V12 Vantage Zagato revealed in 2011.
The production run of the Vanquish Zagato will mirror the concept exhibited at Villa d’Este in design, but offer superior function, with a 6.0L, V12, 600 PSI powertrain capable of generating a 3.5 second 0 to 60 MPH start time. The bodywork will be entirely shaped from carbon-fibre, with the split lines being significantly reduced by the use of large, one-piece panels.
The glass work will wrap uniformly around the Vanquish Zagato’s bodywork to create a visor-like effect, like a visor, and the roof will feature the iconic ‘double-bubble’, a hallmark of the original 1960 DB4 GT Zagato which needed to accommodate racing helmets with minimal impact on the aerodynamic profile.
Inside, the Vanquish Zagato will own all the traditional watermarks of Aston Martin craftsmanship, including herringbone carbon fibre paired with shadow and anodized bronze, aniline leather to give the facia, vents, and rotary dials a rich material quality, and a unique ‘Z’ quilt-pattern stitch used on the seat, door, headrest, and centre console sections.
Other design details include:
- New lights with round tail light reflectors to evoke the classic Zagato rear view.
- Wing mirrors closely related to the units developed for the One-77.
- A sculpted rear similar to the DB11
- Retractable spoiler and rear hatch for easy access to the boot.
- A quad-exhaust
- Carbon fibre sills all around the lower body
Expect this exclusive and iconic sporting GT to be available for delivery by early 2017.
