H.R. Owen Aston Martin Hosts Unique Drive Day at Eastnor Castle

H.R. Owen Aston Martin Cheltenham was proud to host a number of Aston Martin Owners’ Club members at the spectacular Eastnor Castle for a drive day like no other. The current owners were able to test the latest crop of Aston Martins, including the DB11 AMR, the new Vantage and DBS Superleggera along some picturesque country roads through the Malvern Hills.

Eastnor’s car park was graced with the notes of V8 and V12s as the owners pulled up in the morning. Owners spent time admiring each beautifully specced Aston models before being let out in the newest models. Aston Martin experts were on hands to answer any questions.

The Aston Martin DBS Superleggera, Aston’s ultimate offering with a 5.2-litre twin-turbo V12 in a 2+2 Super GT layout is often referred to as a ‘brute in a suit’. The most muscular of the range, the DBS Superleggera is capable of hitting 62mph in 3.4 seconds before topping out at 211mph. It combines the responses of a supercar with the refinement of a GT.

Don’t take our word for it, one of the owners, Chris Bartlett thoroughly enjoyed driving the DBS Superleggera, “it was a complete contrast to the DB Mk.III we had arrived in! As I said to the gentleman who accompanied me the move from non-servo assisted drum and disk brakes to large carbon brakes was the biggest challenge and the first few times my braking wasn’t exactly smooth.

“Having said that I thought the DBS was a superbly drivable car for a machine with so much power. All round I thought it was a fine GT in the true sense of the term.”

The DB11 AMR is now the flagship of the DB11 range, adding 30bhp to the already 600bhp V12 engine, increasing its top speed to 208mph and reducing its 0-62mph time to 3.7 seconds. The AMR model adds more power, increased performance, enhanced driving dynamics and a more characterful exhaust note, together with a suite of exterior and interior enhancements. It promises advanced sporting content without ruining the DB11’s true GT credentials.

The Aston Martin Vantage is the more dainty, sporty offering, allowing drivers a more refined, athletic feel. Powered by a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8, the Vantage is capable of reaching 62mph in 3.6 seconds before hitting the limiter at 195mph. The first of the range to be fitted with an electronic rear differential, the Vantage can react according to the dynamic situation and direct the engine’s power to the relevant wheels.

One of the members thought the new Vantage was the car to have, “the New Vantage was excellent and very much a car to drive both daily or keep it for weekend adventures. The build quality is excellent, acceleration brilliant and handling best ever.”
